Old pickups were designed to a standard that sometimes seems, well, substandard in the modern world. Taillights, in particular, are often far too dim. Thats especially true when they are contrasted with the superbright lights found on late-model cars.
After lamenting the sad state of classic pickup taillights with Bob Lambert of Lambert Enterprises, we were guided in the right directionto an LED conversion kit. Lambert set us up with a kit for the 59 Chevy pickup shown in the accompanying photos.
Now, this is not exactly a bolt-on. Lambert offers many bolt-on kits for other models and years, but not for the 59. Thus, it required a little work to complete. However, the finished installation provides far superior illumination compared with the stock setup. Take a look at what it takes to bring this bright idea to fruition.
